Today, something important happened in Istanbul.

Following massive public backlash, euthanasia discussions for collected dogs were REMOVED from the agenda of the Istanbul Provincial Animal Protection Board meeting.

Lawyers, animal rights advocates, rescuers and ordinary citizens spoke out loudly against proposals linked to the future of collected street dogs and concerns over what could happen inside overcrowded municipal shelters.

People refused to stay silent.

And the authorities stepped back.

Today proved that public scrutiny can force authorities to retreat.
