The Issue

My name is Destiny , and like many others, I rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to feed my household. I am one of the countless SNAP recipients who might be severely impacted if our benefits are delayed or stopped during a government shutdown. After the challenges of the pandemic, many of us are still striving to regain stability, and losing access to essential nutrition support could throw us back into a state of survival mode and oppression.

During the recent government shutdowns, SNAP benefits have been at risk, leaving millions of recipients in a state of uncertainty. For many families, SNAP is the lifeline that ensures food security. An interruption or cessation of benefits can have dire consequences, not just for individual families like mine, but for entire communities.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, SNAP assisted over 41 million Americans in 2022 alone. That's 41 million children, seniors, veterans, and hardworking individuals who could be placed in instant jeopardy if the funding for SNAP is halted during administrative stalemates.

We urge our representatives, especially U.S. Senators and Congress members from Colorado, to advocate for a permanent solution that ensures SNAP benefits remain available to those who need them most, regardless of political or governmental gridlock. We respectfully ask for clear policies that protect the vulnerable from bearing the brunt of political disagreements.

It's critical that our voices are heard to prevent the unnecessary strain and hardship on families already dealing with financial pressures. Join the fight to secure our community’s well-being.

Please sign this petition and help us urge our leaders to protect SNAP benefits during government shutdowns. Together, we can ensure that no family has to choose between food and an uncertain future.
