The Issue

Petition to the Sahuarita Mayor and Town Council

Two large-scale data center developments are being considered in the Sahuarita area—one within the Town of Sahuarita and another just outside the town limits in Pima County.

These enormous industrial facilities raise serious concerns about our community's health, safety, environment, and quality of life. They can consume tremendous amounts of electricity and water, generate continuous industrial noise, create fire and emergency-response challenges, and place additional demands on our already limited desert resources.

We oppose the construction of large-scale data centers in or near our residential neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, and community gathering places.

We call upon the Sahuarita Mayor and Town Council to:

      1. Adopt strong, enforceable data center regulations that protect public health, safety, water resources, and quality of life, including meaningful noise limits, adequate setbacks from homes, schools, hospitals, strict fire and emergency-response requirements, and enforceable decommissioning commitments.

     2. Require transparency and meaningful public participation before any data center development is approved, including public hearings and independent assessments of environmental, water, energy, noise, and safety impacts.

     3. Use every legal authority available to prevent large-scale industrial data centers from being located where they threaten the property values, health, safety, and well-being of our community.

Other communities have taken steps to establish strong data center regulations. Sahuarita must take these concerns seriously as well.

Our community should not have to sacrifice its health, safety, and quality of life for industrial development.

Sign this petition to tell the Sahuarita Town Council: Protect our neighborhoods. Protect our resources. Put the people of Sahuarita first.
