Every false accusation of rape or sexual assault carries a ripple effect destroying reputations, families, and futures, while also weakening public trust in the experiences of genuine victims. Both deserve our protection: those who have truly suffered, and those who are wrongly accused.

Justice should never be about choosing sides, but about seeking truth. To safeguard the integrity of our legal system and the wellbeing of all involved, we ask Parliament to address this growing concern with fairness, compassion, and urgency. 

We propose the following actions:

1. Implement stricter penalties for individuals found guilty of making false allegations, ensuring that these penalties are significant enough to act as a deterrent. This needs to be a separate charge in the system as well as perverting the court of justice and wasting police time. 

2. Allocate resources for thorough and impartial investigations to ensure the truth is uncovered without bias.

3. Establish more robust support systems for individuals who have been falsely accused, offering psychological support and avenues for clearing their names.

We need a separate charge for “False accusations of rape/sexual assault”!!!
