Protect Puerto Rico's Natural Resources from Private Investors and Developers
The Issue
I am a proud Puerto Rican, deeply concerned about the aggressive intrusion of private investors and developers into our beloved homeland. Our beaches, properties, and wetlands, all precious natural resources, are gradually falling into the hands of outsiders. This isn't just about land; it's about our culture, identity, and the very essence of who we are.
Puerto Rico boasts a wealth of biodiversity, with over 1,100 known native plant species, more than 350 bird species and a rare bioluminescent bay that illustrates the true magic of our natural world (source: Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources). This is what we stand to lose to the ambitions of private investors and developers. Our natural resources have always been, and should always remain, the right of the Puerto Rican people.
It's our responsibility as Puerto Ricans to protect and preserve our land. Allowing these resources to be exploited for private gain is not only unfair to us but also jeopardizes the ecological sustainability of Puerto Rico. What's at stake is the preservation of our ecosystem, the protection of indigenous species, and the safeguarding of the beautiful landscapes that define Puerto Rico's natural breath-taking beauty.
These natural resources are our legacy, a legacy we intend to protect and pass on to future generations. We must not allow them to be pillaged by external interests whose only concern is profit. We call on policymakers and lawmakers to uphold our rights and ensure the protection of Puerto Rico's natural resources. Please sign this petition to echo our collective voice in protecting our homeland.
