This is important — please read and act if you can.

Today, Councillors Rosemary and Joe Barratt are holding a community drop-in session in response to growing concern about the closure of the gym and fitness facilities at Stockport Sports Village.

🕚 11:00 AM TODAY (Friday 6 February)
📍 Woodley Civic Hall, Hyde Rd, Woodley, Stockport SK6 1QG

This is a real opportunity to have your say in person and make it clear that the community is not willing to accept decisions about public facilities, public health, and grassroots sport being made behind closed doors.

Many members have already shared how important Stockport Sports Village is to their physical health, mental wellbeing, routine, and social connection — particularly for older residents who may not move to another gym if this facility closes. These voices matter, and they need to be heard directly.

👉 What you can do right now
1️⃣ Attend the drop-in if you are able
Turn up, ask questions, and make it clear that:

the loss of public fitness provision is not acceptable

there has been no meaningful public consultation

transparency is needed on the decision, the finances, and the impact on the community

2️⃣ If you can’t attend, please comment on this petition today

Explain why this facility matters to you. These comments are being read and shared.

This campaign is about accountability, transparency, and protecting community wellbeing. Today’s meeting is a chance to show that the community is paying attention — and expects answers.
