WE GET A SECOND CAMERA ANGLE

This update is for Saturday, June 26. I went to the park early, about 8 am, to check on the moveable signs and barriers in our crosswalk. I suspected there would be an early morning event as it is Saturday, and sure enough, they were on the side of the roadway. I moved them back to their proper positions and fired off an email to Roger Mosier, asking if he had determined who was supposed to return these signs and barriers to their proper place after an event was over.

There was a Pride Day run later in the morning, so I set out to poster the 20 signal boxes in the lower loop with copies of the CPC Park Rules on Bicycles on one face of the box and our petition on another. A nice lady watched me put up a park rules poster, said she worked in a nearby park kiosk, thought the poster was a great idea, and asked for a copy, which I gladly gave her.

It was a hot and humid morning and by 9, I was a sweaty mess, so I sat down near the pre-run festivities at the mall in the shade near Bethesda Fountain, took off my sports coat, and tried to dry out and cool down before finishing the postering. By 10:33 am, I was shooting clips on our crosswalk and shot until 11:30 am. A couple of CPC guys in a golf cart stopped to look at the CPC Bicycle Rules poster in our crosswalk, took a photo, and remarked that it looked real enough and didn't bother to take it down.

At 1:45 pm, I returned with a second camera, which I placed on a big rock formation downstream of our crosswalk so I could get a good shot of people squeezing around and bearing thru our crosswalk when everyone else is stopped on red. These are typically competitive cyclists and face shots will be helpful to identify repeat offenders. I let that just run continuously until the battery died an hour and a quarter later, while I shot my usual clips of the traffic in our crosswalk when the stoplight was red.

Later in the evening, it was surprisingly easy to find the downstream camera footage that corresponded to the incident I shot by hand earlier that same day where a cyclist came into our crosswalk at a high speed yelling "heads up!" and almost crashed into a pedestrian. I was later able to illustrate that incident with clips from more than one angle. Tomorrow I will test a few more camera angles and bring a big fat power bank with me.

ALL BICYCLES are supposed to be going ZERO MPH, stopped in front of the crosswalk when the white safe-to-cross light is on, whether pedestrians are in the crosswalk or not. 

In this case, there are 2 pedestrians standing dead-center in our crosswalk while 2 cyclists charge thru in front of them going well over the speed limit. That's two citations for each cyclist if you are counting.
