Plankton are dying off at an alarming rate. These creatures are the BASIS of the food chain. Without them, the entire ecosystem will fail and the ocean will suffer a mass extinction.

Plankton are also climate and ecosystem regulators, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and emitting dimethyl sulfide, which helps create clouds. Without clouds, average surface temperature would rise by as much as 22° C (71.6° F). This would destroy habitats, create massive drought, melt polar ice caps, create extreme wind velocities, and cause massive flooding of coastal cities. 

We NEED plankton. However, the ocean is becoming more acidic due to pollution, and plankton numbers are reducing to a level that was not predicted to be reached for another 25 years.

PROTECT our PLANKTON. Without them, there are no oceans. And without oceans, there is no life. Therefore, we demand: 

• President Biden and leaders of other countries declare a CLIMATE EMERGENCY.

• A national ban of one-use plastics, as plastic blocks sun light from getting to plankton, so that the plankton dies, causing suffocation and de-oxygenation of the ocean.

• The U.S. turns to clean energy as our main energy source and fossil fuel consumption is drastically reduced, preventing less CO2 from entering the atmosphere and therefore preventing additional ocean acidification.
