Protect Passengers During Transport Strikes – Fair Compensation for the Public

The Issue

I fully support the rights of transport workers to strike for fair pay and conditions. But the public must not be left to carry the cost.

My own story shows why this matters:
I work a second job that is crucial for meeting the income requirements of my spousal visa. On strike days, I can’t reach my job. That means lost wages, extra travel expenses, and added stress — not just for me, but for thousands of Londoners who depend on reliable transport.

Every strike day doesn’t just cost Transport for London millions — it also robs ordinary people of income, stability, and time. Some workers lose entire shifts. Parents miss childcare windows. People with health conditions struggle to reach appointments.

We call on the UK Government and Transport for London to:

1. Introduce a Passenger Compensation Fund – when strike action takes place, passengers who lose work or face additional costs should be able to claim support.

2. Guarantee a Minimum Service Level – ensure a basic level of trains and Tubes run during strikes, so essential journeys can still happen.

3. Provide Alternative Travel Support – expand bus, cycle, and taxi voucher schemes during disruption.

Workers should not have to fight for fair pay by punishing passengers. There must be a fairer balance — one that supports both staff and the public who rely on them.

Please sign this petition to demand change. Strikes shouldn’t mean everyday Londoners lose their livelihoods.
