As supporters of Legislative Rights for Parrots (LRP), we have witnessed firsthand the impact of legislation on our feathered friends. This summer, a devastating arson attack destroyed Ohio's SOAR rescue facility, leaving numerous parrots and a tegu in desperate need of relocation. With limited local resources, LRP stepped up to ensure these animals were safely relocated to licensed entities in Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Michigan.

However, the proposed amendments under HR4922 and SB1614 - known as the Lacey Act Amendment of 2023 - pose significant threats to such crucial efforts. Our owners, breeders, veterinarians are deeply concerned about three key issues:

1) The potential negative impact on veterinary services.
2) The potential infringement on Americans' rights to relocate with their pets due to employment changes, military deployment or natural disasters.
3) The possible restrictions placed by this bill at state borders that could adversely affect veterinary services for pet owners.

These amendments could lead to tragic outcomes like euthanization for animals who hold immense value for their human companions. We believe that every life matters - be it human or animal.
