Since the investigative report was released publicly, trustees held a special meeting to overturn the original decision to not censure as it was made in bad faith. This article describes the situation well:
TCDSB votes to sanction trustee Michael Del Grande for breaching code of conduct
Finally, the community that was negatively impacted by his actions got answers and we could all move on....
However, in a predictable fashion, hero of the *bad* faith, Mike Del Grande, refused to apologize for the harmful impact of his behaviour, now many months after being censured.
Since receiving the sanctions in November 2020, Del Grande has successfully diverted funds from the Catholic church and anti-abortion initiates. He is doing so through CLC's fundraiser which has supporters paying legal fees to protest sanctions, though veiled as a noble Christian cause.
The claims in his $108K+ legal paperwork claims "forced speech" regarding the required apology and "forced indoctrination" regarding the equity training, among other irrational charges of the sanctions.
Del Grande is currently on board granted sick leave that requires sanctions to be completed within 30 days of him returning to trustee duties. Many community members speculate he will feel much better just in time to return for any talks at board of acknowledging Pride Month at the TCDSB, after the student’s 2SLGBTQ+ committee submitted a request for it.
Will decision makers allow such a flippant disregard of processes leading him to grandstand on the topic and harm so many, yet again? Time will tell. Pride Month 2021 starts all over Canada in 34 days…
