Protect Our Right to Choose Where We Get Our Pets.

Protect Our Right to Choose Where We Get Our Pets.
The Issue
As a passionate dog trainer and dedicated advocate for pets, I am deeply concerned about the ongoing efforts by Las Vegas officials to limit our options for finding the perfect animal companion. Channel 3 News recently highlighted Nevada's ranking as #5 in the nation for devoted dog owners, a testament to the commitment and love we have for our pets. However, the current push to enforce pet ownership solely through government-sanctioned shelters feels like an infringement on our rights as responsible pet owners.
Las Vegas has introduced measures to restrict pet sales, specifically targeting breeders and pet stores, while promoting shelter adoption under the 'Adopt Don't Shop' banner. While supporting shelter adoptions is a noble cause, forcing citizens to adopt animals exclusively from shelters without other options is unfair and limits personal choice. Moreover, the Animal Foundation, a prominent shelter, was recently scrutinized for misuse of funds in 2022, raising concerns about where our support and trust should truly lie.
We have a right to make informed decisions about where and how we find our pets. Many reputable breeders have transparent practices and offer animals that are healthy and well-cared for. Closing down these options based on isolated incidents unfairly labels and punishes responsible breeders that uphold high standards.
Our fight is not against shelter adoptions, but for the freedom to choose. We should not be told by the government how to care for our pets or where we must source them. The narrative that such regulations are in the best interest of animal welfare feels disingenuous when it limits our rights and choice. The goal should be collaboration, not coercion.
Join me in standing up for our right to choose. We must urge Las Vegas officials to reconsider these regulations and ensure diverse, transparent, and fair pet acquisition options are available to all. Let our pet community reflect the diversity, respect, and love we have for all animal companions, no matter their origin.
Sign this petition to express your support for maintaining our rights as responsible pet owners and to send a message to Las Vegas officials that we will not be forced to abide by opressive laws that lines the pockets of officials.
