Protect Our Most Vulnerable: Require Cameras in All Special Needs Classrooms

Protect Our Most Vulnerable: Require Cameras in All Special Needs Classrooms
The Issue
Short version:
We're calling on lawmakers, education leaders, and civil rights organizations to mandate password-protected cameras in all special needs classrooms. This is not just a safety issue — it's a human rights issue.
Long Version:
As parents of children with disabilities, we are legally obligated to place our children in public education systems. Yet in many schools across the country — especially in special education settings — there is little to no oversight over what happens behind closed doors.
Too many children in these classrooms are nonverbal, emotionally or cognitively delayed, or unable to communicate abuse or mistreatment. And too many classrooms are staffed by aides or teachers who are not properly trained in handling disabilities — yet we are expected to hand our children over and “trust the system.”
We demand:
- Mandatory, password-protected cameras in all special needs classrooms across the U.S.
- Strict access policies so that only parents, legal advocates, and designated authorities can review footage.
- Stronger training and accountability standards for all personnel working in special education settings.
- Legal protections for parents who report concerns.
This is not just about our children — it’s about every special needs child who cannot speak up.
We are not asking for luxury. We are asking for basic human dignity and safety.
Let’s give our children the protection they deserve.
