Protect Our Community:Burr Ridge Say "NO" to Costco at CNH lot. Please don’t donate money
The Issue
As a concerned resident of Burr Ridge, IL, I am deeply troubled by the proposed plan to build a Costco at the CNH Industrial site. This petition aims to urge the Village of Burr Ridge, including Mayor Grasso, Plan Commission Board, and Zoning Board, to reject this proposal in order to safeguard our community's well-being and preserve our quality of life.
Our close-knit community cherishes its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. However, I fear that these cherished qualities are now under threat due to the potential arrival of a Costco store.
The proposal of a Costco at the CNH Industrial site would have far-reaching negative impacts on our lives as residents. Increased crime activity is one such concern that cannot be ignored. Numerous studies have shown that large retail establishments often attract criminal activity due to their high volume of customers and valuable inventory (Source: National Institute for Crime Prevention). By introducing such a store into our neighborhood, we risk compromising the safety and security that already are in question.
Moreover, saturated traffic is another significant issue associated with big-box retailers like Costco. The additional influx of vehicles generated by this proposed development would undoubtedly exacerbate congestion on already busy roads surrounding the CNH Industrial lot (Source: Traffic Impact Study Report). This not only poses risks for commuters but also hampers emergency response times when every second counts.
Furthermore, property values are likely to decline if this project moves forward. Studies consistently show that proximity to large-scale commercial developments negatively affects residential property values (Source: Journal of Urban Economics). As homeowners who have invested heavily in our properties and take pride in maintaining them meticulously, we cannot afford such depreciation.
Lastly but not leastly important is how this development would harm our park districts – vital spaces where families gather, children play, and wildlife thrives. The increased traffic, noise pollution, and potential environmental damage associated with a Costco store would disrupt the delicate balance we have worked so hard to maintain in our park districts. This not only impacts our enjoyment of these natural spaces but also undermines the efforts we collectively make to preserve wildlife habitats.
In conclusion, I implore Mayor Grasso, Plan Commission Board, and Zoning Board to prioritize the well-being of Burr Ridge residents over short-term economic gains. Let us stand united in protecting our community from the negative consequences that a Costco at CNH Industrial site would bring.
By signing this petition, I express my strong opposition to the proposed Costco development and urge decision-makers to reject this plan for the sake of preserving our community's safety, tranquility, property values, and park districts.
Together we can ensure that Burr Ridge remains a place we are proud to call home – a place where families thrive and nature flourishes!
Thank you for your support!
