Our children are in danger, and we cannot afford to stay silent.

Discord, a popular messaging app with over 200 million users, has become a breeding ground for predators, abusers, and explicit content. Despite claiming to be safe for users 13 and up, it has consistently failed to keep young people protected. According to a lawsuit filed by the New Jersey Attorney General, Discord has exposed minors to horrific dangers — including grooming, exploitation, and even kidnapping.

The stories are chilling.

A 10-year-old girl went missing after communicating with a man on Discord.

A 13-year-old boy was sexually exploited by a stranger on the app.

 A 47-year-old predator used Discord to promote child abuse and livestream disturbing acts.

These are not isolated incidents, they're part of a devastating pattern.

Discord’s own CEO acknowledged the horror, saying, “As a parent, it’s horrifying.” But still, the company continues to market itself as safe for young teens. The truth is, it’s far too easy for younger children to lie about their age, and for adults to pose as peers. Lax safety controls, default settings that fail to protect, and weak oversight have made our kids targets.

We are calling on Discord to immediately raise its minimum user age to at least 16 years old and implement far stronger protections to prevent underage users from creating accounts. This change would give families a chance to educate, supervise, and better prepare their children for online spaces before entering such high-risk environments.

Enough is enough. The safety of our children must come before everything else.
