The Issue

As a parent living in our community, I witness vehicles speeding down St Brides Way every single day. My child and countless others use these streets to walk to School and to play outside with their friends. Every time my child steps out the door, my heart races with fear, worrying that irresponsible drivers may put them in harm's way. I've seen cars blatantly disregard the rules of our residential zone, ignoring the presence of children. We've already experienced too many near-misses, and I'm starting this petition because I refuse to sit back and wait for a tragedy to occur to my child or anyone else's.

Children on their way to Bothwell School and St Brides Way deserve to feel safe. Parents should not have to live in constant fear when their children are simply walking to school or playing outside. It's time for a change, and we demand it now. Traffic calming measures can make a significant difference.

Research consistently shows that reducing speed limits in residential areas decreases the risk of accidents and fatalities. The UK Department for Transport states that pedestrians are seven times more likely to survive a collision if the car is traveling at 30 km/h than at 50 km/h. It's clear that controlling traffic speed can save lives.

We call on our local authorities to take urgent action by implementing effective traffic calming measures on St Brides Way and the routes leading to Bothwell School. Solutions could include speed bumps, traffic islands, and improved signage to ensure drivers are aware they are entering a residential zone with children.

By signing this petition, you will be supporting a safer environment for our children to walk to school and play outside. Let's stand together to enact change and protect our community. Please sign this petition to demand traffic calming measures and make St Brides Way safe for our children. Together, we can make our voices heard and make a difference.
