To the New York State Education Department, school district leadership, and elected officials:

No child should be afraid to walk into school because of bullying, harassment, intimidation, or threats from other students.

As a parent, I have watched my daughter experience ongoing bullying that has affected her emotional well-being, her attendance, and her ability to feel safe at school.

Despite repeated reports, attempts to work with school administrators, and formal complaints, the situation has continued. My daughter has missed school because she is afraid to return. She has experienced cruel comments, including remarks about her deceased father and comments suggesting she should take her own life.

No parent should have to fight this hard just to have their child protected.

I am calling for:

An independent review of how bullying complaints have been investigated and handled.
Independent oversight when potential conflicts of interest exist within school administration.
Accountability when school officials fail to appropriately respond to reported bullying.
Clear safety plans and protections for students who report bullying.
Better communication with parents throughout investigations.
Stronger enforcement of New York's Dignity for All Students Act (DASA).
Protection against retaliation for students who report bullying or stand up for other students.
This is bigger than one child, one family, or one school.

Our children deserve to be heard. Parents deserve transparency. Schools must be held accountable for creating environments where children feel safe, supported, and protected.

We are asking for action, not more promises.
