We’ve just passed 130 signatures. Thank you so much for standing beside me and helping bring attention to something that affects all of us.
As I continue pushing for stronger protections around voice use and deepfake exploitation, I want to share a broader idea that this petition is helping make possible:
We need to start treating AI-generated media with the same accountability we expect from any other powerful industry.
I’m not anti AI. I believe it has the potential to do wonderful things …but the way it’s being used right now isn’t always ethical or sustainable.
What many people don’t realize is that AI, especially generative tools used for media, requires a huge amount of energy and water to function. Every time a synthetic voice, image, or video is created, there’s a hidden environmental cost.
And because AI media is so fast and cheap to produce, it’s already starting to replace human creators—undercutting people’s livelihoods while placing zero responsibility on the companies doing it.
Did You Know?
A single AI-generated image can use as much energy as charging a smartphone dozens of times.
Training just one large AI model can emit over 300,000 kg of CO₂—roughly the same as five round-trip flights from New York to London.
Water is used to cool the massive servers behind AI generation. In 2023, Google’s AI operations alone used 5 billion gallons of water.
Without regulation, AI content production could soon become one of the most resource-draining industries on the planet.
That’s why I’m now developing a separate initiative: an AI Media Tax—not to ban AI, but to ensure it’s used responsibly. This kind of policy would:
Offset the environmental impact of mass AI content
Fund ethical, sustainable AI research
Support human creatives being pushed out of the industry
Protect storytelling and cultural authenticity
This current petition is the first step in building that future. If this resonates with you, please keep sharing this petition. Every signature strengthens the foundation for future action—including the next petition to come.
Thank you for being part of this.
We’re building something bigger than we realize.
