Protect Our Beloved Fishing Spot, "The Dikes", in New Castle County

Protect Our Beloved Fishing Spot, "The Dikes", in New Castle County
The Issue
I love to fish for multiple species, and like many in our community, I'm deeply connected to the serene and pristine fishing locations around Delaware City, DE. Unfortunately, we're seeing a troubling trend where our cherished fishing spots are disappearing. The Army Corps of Engineers plans to fill in the Dikes, which is one of the best fishing locations in New Castle County, depriving us and future generations of an invaluable natural resource.
For years, the Dikes have been a haven for anglers from all walks of life, fostering a sense of community and offering a unique opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Delaware City. These waters aren't just a place to fish; they’re where memories are made and connections with nature are strengthened. Losing the Dikes would mean losing a part of our heritage.
This decision not only impacts us recreationally but also threatens the local ecosystem. The Dikes support a wide variety of fish species and are pivotal in maintaining the ecological balance in our area. The Army Corps of Engineers' plan will disrupt this delicate balance, possibly leading to unforeseen environmental consequences.
We aren’t opposed to development or progress, but it must be along the lines of sustainability and respect for our natural habitats. Instead of filling in this vital fishing spot, we urge the Army Corps to consider alternative solutions that preserve the Dikes and the rich diversity of life it supports. Options such as improved infrastructure or selective maintenance could enhance the area's use without displacing our treasured natural spaces.
Join us in preserving a piece of Delaware City's natural heritage. Let's ensure that our children and grandchildren have the chance to experience the joy and tranquility of fishing in the Dikes. Please sign this petition to protect our beloved fishing spot from irreversible harm.
