Protect Our Basic Rights: Trusting Canadians With Self Defense

The Issue

The ability to carry self-defense tools is a basic human right, and I demand that the government recognize and respect our autonomy in this matter. It's time to acknowledge that responsible citizens have the capacity to make informed decisions about our own safety and well-being.

This insulting and illogical law undermines personal autonomy and disempowers vulnerable individuals, particularly women, from taking charge of their own safety. It's time for a rational and inclusive approach that trusts citizens to make responsible decisions about their own self-defense.

It's a stark reality that dangerous individuals will always find ways to access harmful weapons, regardless of legal restrictions. Meanwhile, law-abiding citizens are left vulnerable and defenseless. It's a glaring inconsistency that we're denied the right to carry non-lethal self-defense tools such as pepper spray, while criminals flaunt the law with impunity. By allowing responsible citizens to lawfully carry these tools, we can level the playing field and empower individuals to protect themselves and their loved ones from harm. It's time to acknowledge that personal safety and responsibility go hand-in-hand.

*Key Points:*

  • Law-abiding citizens have the right to self-defense, as enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • Criminals will obtain weapons illegally, regardless of the law.
  • Restricting self-defense options puts vulnerable individuals, like women, at greater risk.
  • Trust responsible citizens to make decisions about their own safety.
  • Allow carrying of self-defense weapons, like pepper spray, for lawful purposes.
  • Introduce legislation to amend the Criminal Code and allow carrying of self-defense tools.

It’s time for a change, together we can make a difference!
