Protect Our Artists In South Korea: Ban Condolence Wreaths and Hate Messages

I am launching this petition to protest against a troubling practice in South Korea, where condolence wreaths symbols of mourning and death are sent to living artists with hateful messages. Recently, Suga from BTS received wreaths accompanied by insults. Another artist, Seunghan, also received wreaths with harassing messages.

These actions are not only shocking, but they also represent a form of psychological violence and a violation of human dignity. Funeral wreaths, used to threaten and humiliate artists, create a toxic environment that severely affects their mental health. No individual, whether public or not, should have to endure such harassment.

These acts must be considered violations of human rights. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, every person has the right to dignity and safety. This harassment contradicts these fundamental principles and must be condemned.

Under Article 283 of the Korean Penal Code, threats and intimidation are punishable by up to three years of imprisonment or a fine of up to five million won.

We urge the South Korean government to take immediate action to ban the sending of condolence wreaths to living individuals, to recognize these acts as forms of psychological harassment, and to protect artists and citizens from such abuses.

저는 한국에서 조의 화환, 즉 애도와 죽음을 상징하는 조의 화환이 살아있는 아티스트에게 증오의 메시지와 함께 보내지는 문제에 항의하기 위해 이 청원을 시작합니다. 최근 BTS의 슈가가 모욕적인 내용이 담긴 화환을 받았으며, 또 다른 아티스트인 승한 도 괴롭힘 메시지가 담긴 화환을 받았습니다.

이러한 행동은 충격적일 뿐만 아니라 심리적 폭력의 한 형태이며 인간 존엄성에 대한 침해를 의미합니다. 아티스트를 위협하고 모욕하는 데 사용되는 조의 화환은 그들의 정신 건강에 심각한 영향을 미치는 독성 환경을 조성합니다. 공인이나 비공인 누구도 이러한 괴롭힘을 당해서는 안 됩니다.

이러한 행위는 인권 침해로 간주되어야 합니다. 세계인권선언에 따르면, 모든 사람은 존엄성과 안전에 대한 권리를 가지고 있습니다. 이 괴롭힘은 이러한 기본 원칙을 위배하며 강력히 비난받아야 합니다.

한국 형법 제283조에 따르면, 위협 및 협박은 3년 이하의 징역형 또는 500만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있습니다.

우리는 한국 정부가 살아있는 개인에게 조의 화환을 보내는 행위를 즉시 금지하고, 이러한 행위를 심리적 괴롭힘의 형태로 인식하며, 아티스트와 시민을 이러한 학대로부터 보호하기 위한 조치를 취할 것을 촉구합니다.
