Today's Catholic Education and Living our Catholic Values Sub-Committee (public) meeting will be held at 5:00 PM, at 80 Sheppard Ave East, 2nd Fl., in Toronto. In addition to hearing from more members of the public, a recommendation on the Code of Conduct for the board of Trustees to vote on is supposed to be made.

Isabel Teotonio, Education Reporter at the Toronto Star's revealed in her recent article "The decision could have a financial fallout, according to The Angel Foundation for Learning, a charitable organization that serves TCDSB students with initiatives such as breakfast programs. Its executive director John Yan is warning it could lose at least $50,000 in corporate sponsorship — about one-third of total corporate sponsorship — if the terms are excluded because corporations are prohibited from working with organizations that don’t adhere to Ontario’s Human Rights Code."

Further, The Institute for Catholic Education has published a monograph that in part reads “Catholic Schools should consciously create an environment where students who feel marginalized, rejected or vulnerable can experience safe, nurturing, inclusive communities of faith.”

While this outcry to protect all our TCDSB youth and families from discrimination is getting louder, Liberal leadership hopeful Alvin Tedjo is promising to end Catholic school funding, and is garnering a rising amount of attention and support as a result.

The Toronto Catholic School Board's staff, Trustees and affiliates have (mostly) remained quiet, giving the extreme and intolerant few a louder platform in the recent months. Perhaps now that the board's bottom line and their very positions are being questioned, more will speak up to end this madness and seek remedy for the damage that has resulted. We shall see...
