Update: Proposed Merger of Our Holy Redeemer’s — Formal Objection Submitted

I am sharing an important update regarding the future of Our Holy Redeemer’s Church, Clydebank.

The Archbishop has issued a letter announcing the decision to merge Our Holy Redeemer’s and Saint Margaret’s parishes, with Saint Margaret’s designated as the parish church and Our Holy Redeemer’s becoming secondary.

For many parishioners, this was the first time it became clear that such a significant structural change was being proposed.

It is also important to note that when the parish councils were merged in previous years, parishioners were told that this was for practical convenience and cooperation and would not lead to a formal merger of the parishes. This context is part of why the current decision has caused concern and confusion.

After receiving this letter, I formally wrote to the Archbishop to object to the proposed merger.

I am now in the process of preparing a formal appeal to the Vatican (the Dicastery for the Clergy), supported by this petition and the hundreds of people who have signed to show their support for Our Holy Redeemer’s.

This petition continues to demonstrate that:

• Our Holy Redeemer’s matters deeply to the community
• People believe it deserves a fair opportunity for repair and renewal
• There is strong support for its future
