Hello Petition Supporters,
My name is Alexandra, and I'm on the Civic Engagement team at Change.org. Our team works to connect petition starters and supporters with the public officials who have the power to act on the issues you care about. I spoke with the office of Sacramento City Council Member Lisa Kaplan about the petition and ongoing community concerns regarding the proposed micro-community site in North Natomas.
Council Member Kaplan’s office shared that they have been in regular communication with residents and encourage anyone with questions or feedback to reach out directly to their office. They also welcomed the opportunity to share an update here for petition supporters.
The office explained that this issue stems from a 2022 City Council decision that granted the City Manager the authority to create micro-communities without requiring City Council approval. At that time, Council Member Kaplan voted against the measure, saying she believes both the Council and the community should have an opportunity to weigh in before such decisions are made.
Because of that prior vote, the current proposal will not come before the City Council for approval, meaning future outreach and advocacy should be directed to the City Manager’s office.
However, Council Member Kaplan emphasized that she will continue to advocate for the interests of North Natomas residents and is actively engaged in gathering input from the community. She has already hosted multiple community meetings—including one on Zoom and another with residents of the mobile home community located next to the proposed development—to ensure constituent voices are heard.
Her office remains open to questions and feedback from residents who want to stay informed or share their perspective.
Thank you to everyone continuing to participate in this discussion and ensuring the community’s voice remains part of the process.
