 Short version of the Story:   Demolition of the Glendale Garden Homes has started despite our hard won EIR requirement. In a closed door meeting late last week, unelected City Staff and the City Attorney authorized the landlord to cut down 40+ trees and all greenery against the buildings from the property. It is utter devestation. and the most heartbreaking thing to see. The chainsaws started at 7am Monday morning with no notice, street signs or city oversight. This was green lit by city staff without the knowledge of the residents, neighbors, or their City Council representatives. This is especially egregious in the face of the pending EIR that specifically emphasizes the garden character of the property in its evaluation as a historic recluse. After years of negligence, the owner is suddenly worried about fire safety.  His attorney, who has filed suit against Glendale to fight the EIR decision, have used the Fire Safety laws to get approvals from the GFD, the city arborist and Community Development to initiate this action.

Tell City Council this closed door decision without any public input or acknowledgement is unacceptable and someone should be held accountable. We’ll undoubtably once again hear the city manager apologize and say “we’ll do better,” and “we made a mistake”... How many times do we have to hear this?  We need the truth about what’s going on with Glendale Gardens, is the EIR happening, is a lawsuit pending? Is the City making a deal?  The residents, neighbors and the entire community deserve the TRUTH and respect from this owner and city of Glendale. What is happening with Glendale Gardens? Is this step one in its demolition? Show up to city council Tuesday night and demand accountability!
