The Issue

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the permanent closure of No Limits Community Cafe & Hub in Newton Abbot, which ceased operations on Friday, March 28th, 2025.

Since opening its doors in June 2020, No Limits has become a beacon of hope, employing 18 local people and creating a warm, inclusive environment for its participants, staff, and visitors. It's a place where people who often face barriers to employment can gain confidence, learn valuable skills, and become part of a supportive community.

The closure occurred due to a combination of factors, including the pressures of the current economic climate, the after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing energy crisis, the rising cost of living, disrupted funding from the DWP Access to Work program, and an increase in Employer National Insurance contributions, which placed a considerable strain on the cafe's finances

This closure has a devastating impact on the individuals who rely on the cafe for support and opportunities. While we were unable to prevent the closure, this petition now serves to highlight the urgent need for similar inclusive community spaces for Newton Abbot. We continue to believe that Martin Wrigley MP, Teignbridge District Council, and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) should understand the vital role No Limits played and explore sustainable solutions to support and encourage the creation of similar resources in the future.

And I want to assure you, with your support, my commitment to advocating for these crucial resources in our community is unwavering.

Please continue to sign this petition to demonstrate the strong community support for inclusive initiatives like No Limits and to urge our local and national representatives to prioritize the creation and funding of such vital services for differently-abled individuals in Newton Abbot.
