It’s been around a year since my community-spaces petition reached Parliament, and I still feel strongly about why it matters.

For some people, somewhere welcoming to go is simply a nice extra. For others — including neurodivergent people, disabled people, people who are isolated or people trying to find purpose and opportunities — accessible community spaces can make a real difference.

They can provide connection, confidence, belonging, skills and somewhere to contribute without having to fit into one narrow route.

A year later, my own experiences still remind me that we need more places where people can participate in ways that actually work for them.
