Great news — the English Devolution & Community Empowerment Bill, which includes reforms that could help protect community spaces like ours, has now moved into the House of Lords Committee Stage.
This is the part where:
🔹 meaningful changes are added
🔹 protections can be strengthened
🔹 voices like ours start to echo in policy shaping
Key proposals emerging so far include:
✔ widening the definition of community assets
✔ allowing previously closed venues to still be recognised as community value
✔ tackling harmful commercial lease practices
✔ giving local authorities clearer planning and wellbeing duties
This aligns strongly with what we have been campaigning for since March.
I will continue monitoring developments closely — thank you for standing with community spaces.
