Update ***Trident and Hyperscale data centers Aurora***
Please come to City Council on Monday, October 26 at 6pm!
Thanks for signing and sharing. We are over 3,000 signatures, and Aurora is listening! BUT there is still a lot to do and ask you to PLEASE participate as you have been.
Vantage has told the city it will look at sites farther from homes, but it also asked council to pause new data center rules for 90 days. Mayor Coffman said no. Moving one project does not protect the next neighborhood. Thank you Mayor Coffman for saying no.
On Monday night, Aurora City Council will meet at the Aurora Municipal Center at 6pm. This is what's on the agenda:
Study session: Council will discuss how far data centers must be from homes and which uses need a public hearing and conditional approval, instead of being allowed by right.
Item 17.a: Council will vote on whether to bring the data center moratorium back for reconsideration. Because it was voted down less than six months ago, it needs seven votes now to move forward. Email City council asking to vote on yes for moratorium.
Item 18.a: If it gets those seven votes, council votes on the moratorium itself, which needs six votes to pass. It would pause new data center applications until new rules are in place.
The moratorium would not stop Trident's current application. It would stop the next project from going through the same process. The mayor has said that if Trident is approved, he would call it up for a council vote as a last resort. Until then, the best thing we can do is keep the pressure on.
What we are asking you to do:
Come on Monday and speak, about Trident and about these hyper scale data centers. Sign up to speak through the city's council page. Sign-up closes at 1pm Monday. If you cannot come, watch the livestream.
Please email the city council we support an indefinite moratorium on new data center applications we need real regulations in place and no tax incentives for a start.
Ask for rules based on independent research. We need regulations written with independent health and environmental scientists, so the city can protect our water, air, nature, and neighbors.
Email citycouncil@auroragov.org if you cannot attend.
Watch city council and livestream. But if you can its BEST to show up and be seen an heard.
Thank you.
