Tonight there is an important MUSD Enrollment Committee meeting about the future of our local school sites.

⚡️Please attend if you can and show strong community support for our neighborhood schools.
This committee is reviewing enrollment, facilities, and possible recommendations that could affect whether schools are closed, consolidated, repurposed, or kept open.
⚡️But here is the urgent part:
The committee needs to hear the full budget picture from the public.
Yesterday's School Leaders budget stabilization presentation does not show that school closures should be the first answer. In fact, Slide 19 — the “Financial Impact Summary” — shows over $4.2 million in identified annual recurring savings, over $2.9 million in annual revenue opportunities, and $2.9 million in one-time capital and grant opportunitiesacross the full stabilization plan. Facilities consolidation savings are still listed separately as TBD pending committee work.
That means the district’s own consultant report points to a broader path: attendance recovery, enrollment rebuilding, homeschool/independent-study outreach, technology cost review, facility-use revenue, MTSS/special education improvements, and administrative restructuring.
One key example: the report says every 1% improvement in attendance/ADA could bring about $440,000 in LCFF revenue, growing to a possible $2.6 million per year through attendance recovery. It also recommends administrative restructuring in Instructional Services, with estimated savings of about $350,000 per year.
So before any neighborhood school is closed, the public should ask: Why are closures moving forward before these stabilization options are even fully implemented and measured?
Closing a school may create quick limited savings on paper, but the loss to students, families, staff, and communities can be permanent.
Tonight, let’s speak clearly:
- Show the full numbers.
- Share the full consultant findings with the committee.
- Study real site-by-site impacts.
- Recover attendance first.
- Rebuild enrollment first.
- Stabilize before closure.
Support community schools. Do not rush closures. Stabilize MUSD first!
