The Issue

Paola Clouatre was breastfeeding her 3-month-old daughter when ICE agents arrested her at a routine green card appointment in Baton Rouge.

Her husband, Adrian, is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Now he’s raising two young children alone—while making an eight-hour round trip to visit his wife in detention.

What happened to the Clouatre family is not just cruel.

It’s the direct result of a policy change.

For years, spouses of military service members and veterans were given discretion during the immigration process—recognizing the service and sacrifice of their families. But under President Trump, those protections were revoked. Families once treated with compassion are now being funneled into detention and deportation—even when they’re actively working to adjust their status.

Paola’s story is heartbreaking. But it’s not unique.

Thousands of families who believed military service offered a pathway to stability are now being torn apart by aggressive enforcement.

We’re calling on the Department of Homeland Security to reinstate immigration enforcement discretion for military families. That includes pausing deportation orders and restoring pathways that allow veterans’ spouses to remain in the U.S. while seeking legal status.

A veteran shouldn’t have to watch ICE take his wife away at a government office.

Sign this petition to demand DHS stop targeting the families of those who’ve served—and restore the protections they deserve.
