The Issue

Growing up, countless memories have been created within the walls of Mckenny Elementary in Olympia. It's where our childhoods were nurtured, friendships were formed, and dreams began to take flight. Now, despite a previous victory to keep our beloved school open, the threat of closure looms again. Alongside Mckenny, other pillars of our community—Madison and LB Brown Elementary—are also facing the chopping block.

This isn't just about losing a building; it's about losing a community. For families in the Olympia area, these schools are more than educational institutions. They are second homes that provide stability and a sense of belonging. The closure would not only disrupt the lives of students but also burden neighboring schools, leading to overcrowded classrooms and strained resources. What happens then? Do we just continue closing more schools?

Closing Mckenny, Madison, and Lincoln Elementary would force children to travel further for their education, creating extra stress on families and diminishing the quality of education that every child deserves. Research shows that smaller community schools play a crucial role in student success, provided by a more personalized and engaging learning experience.

We understand funding challenges exist, but cutting the heart out of our community is not the solution. We call upon school administrators and local government officials to explore alternative solutions—such as reallocating budgets or seeking community partnerships—that protect our schools and uphold our children's right to quality education.

We cannot let them erase these vital parts of our community. By acting together, we can make our voices heard and ensure the future of Mckenny, Madison, and Lincoln Elementary Schools. Don't let Olympia's bright future fade into history—stand with us and protect our schools!

Please sign this petition to save Mckenny Elementary and keep the flame of community, education, and childhood alive.
