Having lived in Mackay and maintaining strong family ties to the area, I am deeply concerned about the proposed development at Milton Street Airport. My personal connection to this beautiful region drives my desire to protect it from overdevelopment and urbanization that threaten to disrupt the community's unique charm and spirit.

The proposed Milton Street Airport development plans to transform the area into a bustling urban hub. However, this comes at the cost of losing the region's natural beauty, open spaces, and the community-oriented lifestyle that residents cherish. According to the proposed plans, the development will involve the construction of numerous commercial and residential buildings, leading to increased traffic congestion, pollution, and noise levels.  This will happen due to increased tourism and population due to the upgraded airport facility, which will in turn impact the whole Mackay region.

In other regions where similar urbanization has occurred, studies show a tangible decrease in community engagement and a loss of local character. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has noted that overdevelopment often results in a decline in local biodiversity and negatively impacts residents' mental well-being.

Moreover, the current infrastructure in Mackay is not prepared to handle such rapid expansion. Increased pressure on roads, public amenities, and utilities will likely lead to a decline in service quality and residents' quality of life. An area once known for its tranquil environment and close-knit community risks becoming an overcrowded, impersonal urban expanse.

Local government officials and developers must consider sustainable alternatives that prioritize the preservation of our community's character and environment. Responsible developments should incorporate ample green spaces, maintain low-density housing, and enhance existing infrastructure to align with the community's needs and values.
