GOOD NEWS – WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS!

I am pleased to share an important update in our campaign to make the Duke Street pedestrian crossing in Rooty Hill safer.

Following our continued representations to our local MP, Edmond Atalla, and Transport for NSW, we have received confirmation that Transport for NSW will undertake investigation work to develop options for upgrading the existing pedestrian crossing near Woodstock Avenue.

The planned investigation work includes surveying, locating underground utilities and geotechnical investigations. Subject to weather conditions, the work is scheduled to take place over up to four night shifts between 9 November and 3 December 2026.

This is an encouraging development and a positive step forward for our campaign. I would like to sincerely thank Edmond Atalla MP and his office for continuing to raise our concerns and push for progress.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who signed and shared our petition, supported our efforts and spoke up about pedestrian safety in our community. Your support has helped keep this important issue on the agenda.

However, our work is not finished yet.

The current announcement confirms investigation work to develop upgrade options; it does not yet confirm what improvements will ultimately be implemented or when construction will begin.

Our goal remains clear: we want meaningful safety improvements that protect the hundreds of pedestrians (including school children) who use this crossing.

My two sons were struck by a vehicle at this crossing. Since then, other parents have also contacted me about incidents in which their children were injured at the same location. We cannot ignore these experiences or wait for another serious accident before taking action.

We will continue following up with the relevant authorities and pushing for a safer crossing.

Thank you for standing with us. Let's keep pushing to make Duke Street pedestrian crossing safer for our children and the entire community.

Please continue sharing the petition so we can keep this issue in the public eye.
