To show what’s at stake, we’ve put together a simple comparison: the park as it is today vs what the council has planned.

Mature planting, quiet, peaceful spaces and characterful corners that make the park feel calm, green and welcoming.

AFTER
Large areas of mature planting removed, replacing the park’s variety with a more homogeneous open space.

The council’s proposals talk about “simplifying the park” and increasing “passive surveillance”.

In practice, that means removing many of the shrubs, mature planting and quiet, peaceful spaces that give Langthorne Park its character and make it somewhere people love.

Langthorne Park works because it isn’t just one open space. It’s a series of different spaces which open up as you walk through them – from play areas and picnic spots to quieter, more peaceful corners and the ornamental garden. That variety is what makes it special.

Once that variety is gone, it can’t easily be put back.
