Petition updateProtect Lakewood from Harmful Housing BillsTHE NEXT ROUND IN THE FIGHT TO DEFEAT SB 79 IS ON SEPTEMBER 5

The State Assembly will take up SB 79 as amended on Friday, September 5. The amendments made to SB 79 are deliberately contradictory and confusing. It is still a bad bill. Our Neighborhood Voices, the organization taking the lead to restore local control on housing, is asking everyone up and down the state to lobby their assembly member for a NO vote.

Thankfully, after our Assemblymember Jose Solache's resounding NO vote on the Appropriations Committee, I'm confident we can count on him to once again vote no. If you haven't already done so, thank him the same way you lobbied his office -- either by phone, email, or through his official website. Encourage him to persuade his colleagues to also vote no.

Here they are once again:

On another note, here is an excellent article written by Chris Le Gras, who has been sounding the alarm about the YIMBYs since the passage of SB 9 and is affiliated with Our Neighborhood Voices. It spells out what is at stake in our community and in our state if Sen. Scott Weiner and the YIMBYs continue the flood of legislation designed to eradicate single-family housing in California and put us all in corporate-owned rental housing. I encourage you to take a few minutes to read it.

Oh, and the map? That's Lakewood as of August 1. The red dots are permitted ADUs -- which include garage conversions, single-unit ADUs, and multi-unit structures. The yellow dots are permits in process.

Thank you for signing the petition and signing up to support the initiative on Our Neighborhood Voices.
