People like us in cities all over the state are waking up to the reality of developers and corporations scooping up single-family homes and building multi-story rental units. How? How is this possible? San Francisco Senator Scott Weiner -- in league with the YIMBYs and said developers and corporations -- has sponsored and successfully had signed into law, numerous bills that has stripped cities of local control over housing. More are in Sacramento's legislative hopper right now that are aimed to go even bigger. Stopping these bills and turning back the clock is like playing "whack-a-mole." They just bide their time and find other ways to sell us out.
"Our Neighborhood Voices" was organized several years ago to fight this movement. Their objective: go "Prop 13" on these folks with an initiative to restore local control. It is the ONLY WAY to stop the corporatization of our neighborhoods. Already 30% of housing in California is owned by corporations. Only a ballot initiative will stop this. That means signature gathering and fundraising. To achieve this objective, we need to build public support. Go to Our Neighborhood Voices to donate and sign-up. Send them photos of construction in your neighborhood.
Finally, there is a protest being organized in multiple California cities for SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 from 10 to NOON. Imagine if Lakewood residents showed their love for this city! There's not much time to pull this together, so I need to hear from you right away if you want to help spread the word, make signs, and show up. Contact me at savelakewoodca@gmail.com.
