We are calling on California State Parks and the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District to take action to mitigate the risk of wildfire threatening the Lake Natoma Heights community.

Nestled against the State Park bluffs overlooking Lake Natoma, the Lake Natoma Heights community is surrounded by dense, dry brush and overgrowth conditions that are a serious fire hazard. In addition, the absence of a nearby fire hydrant severely limits emergency response times and puts lives and property at unnecessary risk.

We request that:

• California State Parks develop and share a clear plan for creating and maintaining a defensible fire line between the fences that back up to the Lake Natoma bluffs and the adjacent natural area — including future management to reduce future fire hazards.
• Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District install a fire hydrant near the Vista Del Rio trailhead — along with a plan for ongoing maintenance and integration into emergency response strategies.

We need preventive measures that protect our homes, our families, and the surrounding natural environment.
