Protect Kids privacy: Stop CCTV in UK school toilets

Protect Kids privacy: Stop CCTV in UK school toilets
The Issue
I'm asking schools and the government to reconsider CCTV in school toilets to protect children’s privacy. Schools should comply with data laws, consult parents before installing surveillance, and respect cultural sensitivities to ensure trust and transparency. Unfortunately many schools in London and the UK are not informing parents or children. This lack of transparency may breach the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, which require individuals to be informed about surveillance and its purposes. The absence of clear signage further exacerbates the issue and may violate children’s right to privacy under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
Children have a right to privacy, especially in sensitive spaces like school toilets. CCTV in these areas causes distress, violates GDPR, and disrespects cultural values.
