The Issue

A proposed luxury condominium development associated with the Princeville resort property near 1 Hotel is moving through the permitting process on Kauaʻi’s North Shore.

While development discussions are not new to this area, many community members have only recently become aware of the scale and scope of this proposal after formal notices were distributed ahead of an upcoming Planning Commission hearing on May 26, 2026.

This project raises significant questions and concerns related to:

  • Cultural and archaeological impacts
  • Environmental and coastal impacts
  • Open space and long-term stewardship of the land
  • Water, traffic, and infrastructure strain
  • Community character and overdevelopment on Kauaʻi’s North Shore

We believe projects of this scale deserve meaningful public review, transparency, and thoughtful consideration before approvals move forward. This petition is not about hostility or division. It is about ensuring that the future of Kauaʻi’s North Shore is approached with care, balance, cultural respect, and long-term responsibility.

The North Shore is more than a resort destination. It is home to communities, cultural history, fragile ecosystems, and places that hold deep meaning for many residents and Native Hawaiian families.

We respectfully ask decision-makers, agencies, and community leaders to:

  • Require comprehensive environmental and cultural review
  • Ensure meaningful public participation and transparency
  • Carefully evaluate long-term impacts to infrastructure and natural resources
  • Fully consider cultural and archaeological concerns before approvals move forward
  • Slow the process where necessary to allow the community adequate time to review and participate

We also encourage community members to:

  • Stay informed
  • Attend public meetings
  • Submit respectful testimony
  • Share concerns thoughtfully and constructively
  • Help ensure local voices are heard in this process

Protecting the future of Kauaʻi’s North Shore requires thoughtful stewardship, community engagement, and accountability.

Our voices matter.
Our culture matters.
Our environment matters.

Mahalo for standing together for Kauaʻi’s future.
