Just a short time after launching the petition we now have over 27,000 signatures!
It’s great to see that so many people want to protect the trees in Jingu Gaien and preserve this urban oasis.
Let's do our best to get even more signatures!
Your help spreading the word about this petition on social media can make a difference.
And when you do, please use these hashtags to strengthen the impact:
#神宮外苑の樹木伐採に反対します
#神宮外苑再開発の見直しを
Addressing your social media postings to Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike will also be helpful.
Because Koike is the one who will make the final decision on the content of the Jingu Gaien redevelopment plan. She is scheduled to make that decision by March 9th, a month after the Planning Council approval.
Some ideas for your postings (of course, put it in your own words and express what you want to say):
* Don't cut down the trees in Jingu Gaien!
* Don't turn Jingu Gaien into a forest of skyscrapers!
* Urban planning should be in harmony with nature.
* The Jingu Gaien redevelopment plan must be revised!
* Koike, remember your commitment to the SDGs!
Also, if you know anyone in the news media, please tell them about this petition.
Finally, for your reference, I’m including here a link to an article from Diamond Online in 2019 (in Japanese). The title translates to “Jingu Gaien to become a 'forest of skyscrapers,' questions raised as full redevelopment plan revealed.”
At the time this article was written, there were already a lot of questions and concerns about the Jingu Gaien redevelopment plan and not much information was being disclosed. At the end of the article, it says, "Explanations (to the public) that can dispel various questions about the process, from the formulation of the urban plan to the construction of this facility, are necessary" but years later that still has not happened.
