Industrial Loop Connection Proposal
We’re asking the City to designate Industrial Loop/Trailhead Ave. as a collector street, connecting directly to Coeur Terre Boulevard, and to remove Appaloosa and Nez Perce from the plan as through connections.
Here’s why this makes sense:
- It’s safer and cheaper: Industrial Loop already serves commercial and light-industrial areas, so it’s better suited for higher traffic volumes than our narrow, sidewalk-free neighborhood streets.
- Protects families and pedestrians: Appaloosa is only 28 feet wide and one of the most used walking routes in Indian Meadows. Thousands of vehicles would make it unsafe for everyone.
- Supports local business: Industrial Loop improvements would increase visibility and access for nearby employers and shops.
- Matches city goals: The City’s Comprehensive Plan says Coeur Terre traffic should move west toward Huetter Road, not east through existing neighborhoods.
- Promotes fairness: New development should manage its own traffic, not shift risks and costs onto residents.
Our proposal (shown in the attached diagram) shows how Industrial Loop can connect efficiently through a roundabout, providing safe local and emergency access, without sacrificing neighborhood livability. Please support this solution at the next Coeur d'Alene Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting on Tuesday, 11/12.
Indian Meadows supports responsible growth, not reactive fixes. Let’s plan smarter now, not pay for mistakes later.
