We are deeply concerned with Trump’s swiftly moving military occupation through our nation and the threat it brings locally. Governor Green, we respectfully ask you to sign on to the joint statement already signed by almost all Democratic governors. Mayor Bissen, we ask you to participate in the ongoing strategy phone calls with other Mayors from across the nation, to form a unified message to Trump: end current military occupations of American cities, and end plans to extend occupations to other cities, states, counties and regions. 

Across our nation, Governors and Mayors risk significant federal funding cuts as they publicly repel and obstruct Trump’s illegal march to fascism. We specifically recognize Trump is targeting Democratic counties and states with "people-of-color" majorities, and those governed by elected leaders of color. Since Hawai'i Nei and Maui County fit the profile to land in the Regime's crosshairs, we believe we can not afford to stand on the sidelines, believing Hawai'i is safe if we lie low, stay silent, and appease President Trump.

We understand in the past you have publicly stated your main goal is to “soften the blow” (Governor Green) and “minimize hardships” (Mayor Bissen) from Trump’s attacks on civil rights, due process, and the rule of law. This approach endangers not only the people of Maui County and Hawai'i Nei, but all Democratic states and counties in the nation. We ask that you unite with your esteemed colleagues from across the United States of America, and fight back. We stand ready to support you and champion your efforts if and when you do finally issue respective statements to this effect, and back those statements with a plan to insulate our state and counties from these affronts to our fragile and beloved Republic.
