Protect Florida Racetracks From Noise Complaints

The Issue

Racetracks across Florida are under constant threat from noise complaints filed by people who moved near these facilities after the tracks were built. These complaints risk shutting down businesses, youth programs, tourism revenue, and decades of motorsport heritage. We are calling on the State of Florida to enact protections for racetracks and motorsport venues that have existed prior to nearby residential development.

For many Floridians, motorsports are not just entertainment — they are community, culture, engineering education, and a gateway to safe driving skills. Racetracks provide:

  • Safe, controlled environments for speed and stunt enthusiasts
  • Youth development programs for karting and junior racing
  • Local business support (shops, restaurants, mechanics, tourism)
  • Skill-building opportunities in engineering, mechanics, and driving
  • A major alternative to illegal street racing

Despite these benefits, racetracks are being pressured, restricted, or sued because of noise complaints from residents who knowingly moved close to an established motorsport venue. This is unfair, economically damaging, and harmful to Florida’s motorsport identity.

Several states — including Iowa, Tennessee, and Arizona — already have “Right to Race” or similar laws that protect existing racetracks from being shut down due to noise complaints filed by new neighbors. Florida should join them.

We are asking Florida lawmakers to support legislation that will:

  1. Protect racetracks that existed before surrounding neighborhoods
  2. Limit or dismiss noise complaints filed by new residents who moved near the track
  3. Require real estate disclosures informing homebuyers about nearby motorsport facilities
  4. Preserve racetracks as vital cultural, recreational, and economic assets
  5. Prevent the closure of longstanding motorsport venues due to nuisance lawsuit

Florida is home to a passionate motorsport community — from grassroots dirt ovals and go-kart tracks to road courses and drag strips. These venues deserve protection, not punishment.

We urge the Florida Legislature to adopt a “Right to Race Act” and safeguard the future of motorsport in our state.

Sign this petition to protect Florida racetracks from unfair noise complaints and ensure future generations can enjoy motorsports safely and legally.
