Within the Ferguson Forest Centre Proposal for Land Disposition & Investment which was submitted to NG council, the Ferguson Forest Centre states under “Preparing for a Long-Term , Sustainable Future.”
“Opportunities include Federal Funding, with a. Contract secured to 2031;…. And increasing social desire and pressure for reforestation/afforestation and community green spaces.”
If the municipal owned land, that the FFC leases is no longer usable by the FFC for productive nursery purposes, by their own Sustainable Future Planning , that land should be turned into a Reforestation Project as it states within the very plan they presented:
“..the reforestation/afforestation and community green spaces” that they present within their very proposal.
The FFC will require this land for their long-term vision of sustainability which is: Reforestation. Utilizing these 13 acres for this purpose, is also in keeping with our NG Municipal Plan of fostering sustainability, tourism and environmental practices. Community involvement, and experiential learning opportunities as well as research and development. Potential to broaden with solar farming partnerships- further taking the FFC off the grid, and creating new revenue streams..
With vision, and little investment this could be the showcase of Urban Forestry/Eco Tourism in the heart of North Grenville, and for Eastern Ontario. Creating new and diversified revenue streams, using the existing land already stewarded by the FFC organization who’s VERY mission is Afforestation (which means creating a forest where there was none)
After all, there is no time like the present.
