Thank you again, all Friends of Del Mar Horsepark, for signing and sharing this petitionGOOD NEWS—It’s a “Pause” not a “Close. ”  LET'S MAKE THAT A VERY SHORT "PAUSE."

At the January 12, 2021 Fairgrounds Board meeting, the Board President, Richard Valdez, asked for our help after citing threat of litigation as their main concern after the Coastkeeper settlements regarding horse property water quality protection in Orange County. However, as Board member Don Mosier stated in the following article, Horsepark is very minor compared with other water pollutants in San Diego County.

The Fairgrounds has started a public workshop to discuss innovative solutions for opening Horsepark--Friday, January 29, at 1:30pm via ZOOM. PLEASE ATTEND! http://www.delmarfairgrounds.com/index.php?fuseaction=about.meeting_agenda

Here’s what we are doing to help the cash-strapped Fairgrounds Save Del Mar Horsepark.  WE STARTED A GO FUND ME to hire expertise that the Fairgrounds cannot afford currently.

Please help if you can... https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-save-del-mar-horsepark utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

Here's Why: The Fairgrounds Board operates on a shoestring now, due to severe financial constraints from the Covid-19 shut-down of Fairgrounds events.

We all need expert opinions regarding the current infrastructure at Horsepark and a much better water test. Both the Fairgrounds Board and the public need to know more from neutral, third-party experts in water quality management.

Friends of Del Mar Horsepark began our fundraising effort to underwrite expert opinions on water quality, as well as the extent of water protection infrastructure already in place at Horsepark.  We know that all the Fairgrounds Board invested a great deal to protect water quality at Horsepark already, such as wash racks that connect directly into the sewer system.

What we do not know are further measures needed to protect the San Dieguito River Valley.

We continue to support leasing Horsepark to an experienced, well-capitalized horse show operator, similar to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club lease for the race track. That operator can also help pay for remediation efforts still required to protect the San Dieguito River Valley and keep horses at Horsepark.
