On February 3rd, the Sacramento City Council -- led by the efforts of Councilmembers Maple and Pluckebaum and their teams-- vote unanimously to repeal the 75 year old law that criminalized the sale of comics and categorized comics as a tool that encourage delinquency!
Today that wrong was righted. Sacramento is a place where comics are valued as a tool for literacy and shaping the creative culture of a city. Thank you for signing this petition and being wind in the sails for this effort.
Sacramento has seen Lavar Burton go on to become Geordi LaForge and Reading Rainbow, our state university taught Academy Award nominated director Ryan Coogler of Black Panther, there are numerous comic creators that have or still call Sacramento home --- Sacramento is harbor to a dozen-plus comic book shops and conventions as comics glued into our civic tapestry and liven our murals, educate our kids, and give places where hope lives in darkest times.
If you’re gonna celebrate, go visit a shop and get yourself a comic book or graphic novel.
We're going to continue the effort to bring Sacramento Comic Book Week to life and if you're interested in that -- please visit https://www.sacramentocomicbookweek.com/home
