Protect civilians now: investigate crimes against Kurds in Syria

The Issue

Civilians in Northern and Northeastern Syria, Rojava, are facing renewed waves of violence, displacement, and human rights abuses. Families are being forced to flee their homes, women are being subjected to sexual violence, and men are facing summary executions. Entire communities are vanishing under a shroud of fear and terror, leaving behind a trail of despair and hopelessness.

The Kurdish communities, who have long been a target in Syria, are particularly vulnerable in this dire situation. Despite their important role in combating extremist groups, they now face severe threats and persecution. There are alarming indications of the re-emergence of extremist factions, further escalating the risk to innocent civilians. It is deeply concerning that while these atrocities unfold, the international response has been dangerously inadequate.

We call upon the United Nations, the European Union, and other leading international bodies to step up and take immediate action. An independent and thorough investigation into these crimes is urgently needed to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure justice for the victims. Additionally, we need an immediate deployment of peacekeeping forces to protect these endangered communities and to maintain stability in the region.

This is not just a regional issue, but a stain on our shared humanity. Turning a blind eye cannot be an option anymore. Every moment of inaction puts more lives at risk and erodes the foundational principles of human rights and dignity. We urge you to speak up and demand action from those in power.

Your voice can make a difference. Join us in calling for justice and protection for the Kurdish people and all affected civilians in Syria. Sign this petition to initiate a global response that these communities desperately need.
