Protect BC cities and property rights.
The Issue
To: The Government of British Columbia, the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, and the Premier of British Columbia
We, the undersigned residents of British Columbia, call for immediate government action to protect the rights and stability of established cities, towns, and property owners amid ongoing Aboriginal title rulings and land claim negotiations.
We support reconciliation and acknowledge the importance of resolving historical land matters. However, we believe that this process must not include the transfer or reclassification of land within established cities, municipalities, or residential and commercial zones.
Lands that have been lawfully purchased, developed, and maintained for generations should not be placed under legal uncertainty. Residents, businesses, and local governments depend on secure land titles to maintain stable communities, public infrastructure, and economic confidence.
We therefore petition the Government of British Columbia to:
Legally prohibit any land claim or title transfer that includes land within established cities, towns, or municipalities;
Protect all existing private, commercial, and municipal land titles from revocation, alteration, or devaluation;
Ensure full transparency and public consultation before any negotiations that could impact incorporated communities;
Safeguard public assets and city infrastructure—including parks, schools, roads, and utilities—from legal uncertainty or claim; and
Create a clear, public framework distinguishing between undeveloped Crown land eligible for negotiation and established communities that must remain protected.
Reconciliation should strengthen British Columbia—not divide it. We support fair, transparent solutions that respect Indigenous rights while protecting the homes, cities, and livelihoods of all British Columbians.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
