We wanted to take a moment to share an important update with all of you who have supported this effort.

Because of your voices, your shares, your messages, and your support… we are seeing real movement.

A Metro Council amendment has now been introduced that would remove the unintended livestock restrictions that were included in Ordinance 178 and return the language to a more appropriate and workable form.

This is a huge step forward.

From the beginning, this was never about opposing animal welfare or fighting against the city. It has always been about one simple thing:

👉 Making sure laws are clear, fair, and based on actual need
👉 Making sure responsible owners and rescues are not unintentionally harmed
👉 And making sure animals are protected the right way

Through this process, we’ve learned a lot.

We learned that the livestock changes were included in a bill that was publicly presented as a dog and cat microchipping ordinance.

We learned there was no data showing a livestock-related problem requiring these changes.

We learned that guidance on how to enforce these provisions came after enforcement had already occurred.

And most importantly… we saw firsthand how quickly this could impact real people and real animals.

🐐 So what happens now?

The proposed amendment is expected to begin moving through the Metro Council process starting with committee review.

This is where things matter most.

This is where decisions are shaped, refined, and ultimately moved forward.

🐐 What this means for all of us

This is not the finish line — but it is a major milestone.

Right now, the most important thing we can do is:

  • Stay engaged

  • Stay respectful

  • Stay focused on solutions

We are incredibly grateful to the councilmembers who are listening and working toward a fix.

This is exactly how the process should work — when concerns are raised, they are heard, and they are addressed.

🐐 Thank you

To every single person who signed, shared, messaged, commented, or simply cared…

This progress is because of you.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as this moves forward.

For now, please continue to:

  • Share the petition

  • Stay engaged

  • And help us ensure this amendment crosses the finish line

Because this has never just been about one ordinance…

It’s about doing things the right way — for people, for communities, and for the animals who depend on us.
